Counselling FAQ for Clients in Squamish and Across British Columbia

Is online counselling as effective as in-person counselling in BC?

Yes. Research shows that online counselling is just as effective as in-person sessions. Many people find it easier to open up when they’re in a familiar space. I use a secure Canadian telehealth platform called Jane that adheres to healthcare privacy laws, ensuring confidentiality and safety for clients across British Columbia.

What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to counselling that works with both mind and nervous system to process emotions, trauma, and repeating relational patterns. By noticing sensations, breath, and movement alongside thoughts and feelings, we create space for deeper regulation, integration, and lasting change.

What is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy?

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a specialized form of somatic therapy developed by Pat Ogden. It integrates body awareness with talk therapy and is especially helpful for trauma and attachment wounds. Rather than focusing only on thoughts, it works with how the body holds and responds to past experiences in the present.

Do you work with attachment wounds and inner child healing?

Yes. My work is grounded in attachment-based counselling and parts work. This may include gently connecting with younger parts of yourself, sometimes referred to as the inner child, especially when early relational experiences continue to shape present-day patterns. The goal is to build compassion, integration, and greater security in your current relationships.

Can therapy help if I live in a rural or remote part of British Columbia?

Yes. Virtual counselling makes therapy accessible wherever you are in British Columbia. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), I can work with clients located anywhere within BC. Many people in rural or small-town communities choose online sessions for privacy, flexibility, and convenience.

Do you work with digital nomads?

Yes. If you travel often or move frequently within British Columbia, online counselling allows you to maintain consistent support wherever you are in the province. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), I can work with clients who are physically located in BC at the time of their session.

What’s the difference between in-person and online counselling?

In-person sessions take place in Squamish, BC, and offer a shared physical space for our work together. Online counselling is delivered through a secure video platform and allows clients located anywhere in British Columbia to access the same somatic and attachment-based approach from home. Both formats are designed to feel steady, relational, and focused.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows me to offer the time to another client. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.

Is counselling covered by insurance in British Columbia?

Many extended health insurance plans in British Columbia cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I provide receipts for reimbursement, and clients are responsible for submitting them to their insurance provider. It’s best to check directly with your insurer to confirm your specific coverage.

What are your fees?

My fee is $165 per 50-minute session for individual counselling and $185 per 50-minute session for couples counselling. Payment is accepted by e-transfer or credit card. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia, sessions are often eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits.

Will the information I share in counselling be kept confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in counselling is confidential, with a few legal exceptions under British Columbia law. These include situations where:

  • There is an imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else

  • Records are required by court order or subpoena

  • A child or vulnerable adult is in need of protection

If any of these situations were to arise, I would make every effort to discuss it with you first.

Can I follow you on social media?

Yes. You’re welcome to follow my professional Instagram and Facebook accounts. To protect confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries, I do not engage in direct communication with clients through social media. However, you’re welcome to read and interact with public posts.
